Philatelic Passport at World Stamp Show 2016

Finally! We can now share the completed Passport from the World Stamp Show 2016. A few cancellations from the last two days were pending and thus we were unable to share the details. A blank copy of the passport was picked up from the Linns Stamp News booth on the first day of the show, stamps and cancellations applied over the course of next four days at various country, organization and stamp dealers booths. Even though the overall number of countries participating at the show was huge, many of them were represented by Herrick Stamp Company, IGPC and Stamperija. Countries that were represented by their respective postal administrations are in bold below. In another update to this post, countries represented by large stamp dealers will be identified as well. In total, our passport contains 108 different stamps/cancellations! Here's a list of the cancellations that were obtained during the stamp show, which we attended from 28th to 31st May. Show Cachets & Cancels @ World Stamp Show 2016

United States Postal Service and India Post provided special cancels for each day of the World Stamp Show 2016 in New York. USPS cancels were used by American Philatelic Society to prepare official show covers. India Post on the other hand sold two covers with one special cancel for each day of the show.

India Post cancels and covers were either based on the official theme days or with themes of the stamps released by USPS. The official theme day was used for two of the eight days of the stamp show and cancels/covers for the remaining six days was based on the theme of the stamps released by USPS. The themes listed below were used by India Post (days where official theme day was not used are highlighted in blue). One additional generic cover and two cancels were also provided throughout the duration of the show. Each cover was priced at $5, with a pack of 18 covers at $90.

Special Cachets and Cancels from India Post.

USPS and APS on other hand provided a cachet and a cancel for all eight days of the show. Each of these were based on the official theme days, which are listed below. APS also produced a generic cover with Lady Liberty cachet. Each serviced cachet was priced at $3 and the generic cachet at $2, with the entire set of 9 totaling to $26.

Stamp releases are planned for almost all days of the stamp show. Two of stamp issues, World Stamp Show-NY2016 two stamp folio and Classics Forver (6 designs) will only be available online at usps.com or at the stamp show. Below is the list of stamps to be released in New York City.

New York City will host the World Stamp Show from 28 May 2016 onward. New stamp releases are planned for most of the days. A set of 16 stamps to commemorate 100 years of National Parks Service will be issued on 02 June. Here's a list of the National Park stamps, their locations and the USPS stamp pane. Will post other stamps that will be released during the stamp show soon.

International Stamp Shows in United States

Every decade in the last 100 years an international philatelic exhibition has been organized in the United States. These exhibitions were mostly held in years ending in 6 or 7, for e.g. 1926 or 1997. This is to coincide with the year 1847 when the first stamp was issued by United States. The first international stamp show was held in 1913 and the most recent one was in 2006. The next edition is coming up soon, the 11th one, to be held in New York City (May-Jun 2016). Looking forward to the souvenir sheets and stamps to released at the event later this year. Four new stamp issues viz. intaglio version of the two NY2016 stamps (2 panes of 12 stamps), View of our Planets (Pane of 16 stamps), Pluto - Explored (Souvenir sheet of 4) and Repeal of the Stamp Act (Pane of 10) are planned to be released during the World Stamp Show - New York City 2016. Below is a tabulated list of the dates and locations of all the international philatelic exhibitions. Also shown are some of the stamps and souvenir sheets released to commemorate these stamp exhibitions.
